Welcome to Year 6 - Owls!
Mr Sullivan-Stanley is our class teacher.
Miss Hansford is our Learning Support Assistant.
This term we will be learning about WW2. We will be thinking about what life was like here in Britain at that time and how people coped with the changes in their lives. We will also learn about key dates and battles in the war. This topic links with our English work as we will be reading 'Goodnight Mr Tom' together and writing a range of texts based on the story.
Our class P.E. days are now Tuesday and Thursday and the children will need their kit on these days. Please ensure that their P.E. clothes are labelled. Earrings must be removed for PE. In term 3, we will be swimming so children will only have P.E. on Tuesdays. Please ensure they have appropriate kit for this.
A reminder that your child should be reading at home daily and this should be recorded in their diaries. They may read a range of texts as well as the book they bring home.
All children have logins for Mathletics and Spellodrome, which are fantastic sites that the children can access at any time to develop their skills. It would be beneficial for all children to access these sites each week.
Homework will be set every Friday and will be due in the following Wednesday.
We are using Class Dojo and if you need a new login, please let me know.
At certain times, homework will be set online. This is to be completed on the computer, and for those without internet access, it can be completed in school at lunch time. The children have been given logins to the following websites:
Spellings are taught daily through a range of activities. A spelling list of 10 words will be sent home every Monday ready for a spelling test each Friday. Practise at home will greatly enhance your child's understanding of the spelling patterns being taught. If you would like a copy of the term's spellings, then please let me know.
We had a fantastic time at Arethusa this year and all the children showed a range of our school values to be successful. The centre had really positive things to say about the children's attitude and behaviour. I was proud to watch them all try new activities and build their confidence.
In term 2, we will be looking at 'Our Changing World'. This will allow us to consider how our world changes physically, economically and how humans impact on the earth. We will be reading 'Shackleton's Journey' in English, which is a fantastic true story of a journey to the Antarctic.
Please find our overview below:
Term 3 - Evolution
In term 3, we will focus on learning about Evolution. This is a fascinating topic which will allow us to explore: the history of human beings and how we have evolved through time; animals and their adaptations; how fossils help us to understand evolution; and the theories of Charles Darwin. We will also be swimming this term from the 22nd January.
We have a class assembly on Wednesday 6th February at 9.15am.
Owls coffee morning is on Thursday 10th January.
Please see the overview for the term below.
This term is focused on SATs. We are going to be continuing with our revision and will do our best to ensure children are as ready as possible to sit their SATs with confidence. SATs week will begin on Monday 13th May 2019 and children will be welcome to come to school from 8.15am for a breakfast that week excluding the Friday.
Please do continue to work with your children at home. Encourage them to use their revision guides as well as all of the online resources that we provide them with.
