Term 2 - Our Changing World
This term, our topic is Our Changing World. We will discover some of the many ways in which the world is changing. From coastal erosion to political changes, there are many factors at work. We will also learn about the structure of the United Kingdom and how its shape and geography have changed over time.
Our Science topic for this term is Living Things and their Habitats. We will build on our knowledge by sorting animals into groups and extend our learning by finding out about the standard system of classification, which was first developed by Carl Linnaeus. We will learn about micro-organisms and conduct investigations.
Our class book this term is Floodland by Marcus Sedgwick.
Term 1 - World War 2
This term, our topic is World War 2. We will be learning when and why World War 2 began, discover all about evacuation, food rationing, woman during the war and lots more. We will also be finding out about the Windrush generation, who they are and why they made their journey to the UK. Our Power of Reading book this term is Rose Blanche, which is set during World War 2.
For the first two weeks of term, the whole school will be reading the Power of Reading book, Here We Are: Notes for Planet Earth. We hope to encourage a sense of community across the school, to reflect on the last few months and to look to the future.
PE is on Fridays. Please ensure your child has their full labelled PE kit in school, including long tracksuit bottoms / joggers, a t-shirt, jumper and trainers. Earrings will need to be removed and hair tied back.
Homework will be set every Friday and will be due in the following Wednesday. The majority of homework will be set online using PurpleMash, SPAG.com and IXL.com. Your child will receive their logins and passwords in the next few weeks. We will be running a lunchtime homework club on Tuesdays.
Children should be reading daily at home. Please remember to sign your child's reading record.
Spellings are taught daily through a range of activities. A term's spelling list will be sent home at the beginning of each term. Every Friday, your child will have a list of 10 spellings to learn ready for a spelling test the following Friday. Practise at home will greatly enhance your child's understanding of the spelling patterns being taught.
